  • Finally published a long blog post I’ve been working on for weeks! I dug into the values embedded in generative AI and the aesthetics of what I’m calling the “Business Borg” 😄 I also picked out accompanying indie tunes (gauging “obscurity” by fewer than 200k views on YouTube, mostly much less) 🎶

  • I’m working on a series over at my main blog that I’ve been working up to for the last year or even two 🦾 I tried to write it back in March, but didn’t have a good thruline. It finally came together under “the mindset of more.” I’m psyched about the most recent post, on taking control of my reading.

  • Do you have a draft blog post you want a second opinion on? I’m offering to do a developmental edit for 5 people this month as a gift to the indie web community. Details on my main site.

  • ✍️ I scribbled myself a two sentence note on Friday, then when I went to put it online it grew into 2000 words 😂 I feel a bit silly because it’s about what makes a blog a blog. But, if you’re interested: Understanding blogs

  • ✍ Question for fiction writers: do you outline in the same tense that you write in? My friend and I discovered last night that both of us outline in present tense but write in past tense. Curious whether others do as well 😊

  • At last night’s Homebrew Website Club, we lamented never finishing our blog drafts. Today I realized one of my drafts was about choosing and finishing projects. So I haven’t written any of today’s NaNoWriMo words yet, but I did write this 2000 word blog post 😂

  • You know how they tell you not to start running by running a 5k every day? NaNoWriMo is kinda like that for writing 😂

Three days of more writing than I’ve done in months, and I’m definitely feeling it!

  • Looking for comp titles

Been reading lots of Kindle Unlimited books to try to find comp authors for my sci-fi romance book - found another potential one today! I’ll try a couple more of her books to get a better feel for her style.

It’s tricky to find a match for style, tone and heat level. I’m writing sexy space opera but a lot of the genre is sexy alien bonding, which is a poor match on heat and style, so there are fewer options to choose from 🤷‍♀️ It’s interesting to dig deep into what’s already a niche genre and see how many styles there are - and figure out what readers expect from each.

The closest overall match for my WIP is an older author who’s stopped publishing, so I’m hesitant to refer to her. More recent books have been comparable in style but not heat level 🤔 Guess I’ll just have to keep reading, oh darn 😉
